CanJam at RMAF 2013: Astell&Kern AK10 USB Amp/DAC

While I've got some mixed feelings about the playlist and Bluetooth functionality of the AK120, I've got absolutely no qualms about it's place in a reference quality portable rig. With its ability to store up to 192gB of music files in most any format and resolution including DSD, and having an optical digital output, it is indeed the perfect mate for the CEntrance HiFi M8 portable headphone amp. I topped it off with the new NAD VISO HP50 sealed headphone for my show reference rig—sealed cans are definitely a requirement at shows—it's a rig that I put on a lot of peoples heads over the weekend and it never failed to please.

My portable reference rig at the moment: Astell&Kern AK120, CEntrance HiFi M8, and NAD VISO HP 50 sealed cans.

Astell&Kern had something new up their sleeve for CanJam: the AK10, portable DAC/amp for your iPhone, Android, Mac, or PC. People have been dragging the digits off iDevices for a while now, but streaming digital files from Androids is just now beginning to gather steam, and I'm happy as a clam to see Astell&Kern at it. They claim the AK10 is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, and Samsung Note2 and Note3...but I bet the Head-Fi geeks tramping around in this mahooosive thread will know of numerous devices that can source digital files via USB-on-the-go to the AK10.

Jimmy gave me the full run-down in the video.
