HIFIMAN Launch Ananda BT Wireless Planar Headphones

Bluetooth got another nod for connectivity from the audiophile world with HIFIMAN’s announcement of their wireless $1,199 USD rechargeable Ananda BT model at CANJAM New York over the weekend.

I’m all about high-quality cables for when they’re required, but I’m hearing less of enough of a difference in wireless streaming of 24-bit mp3 or FLAC (or up to and including CD-quality or thereabouts) files to care – that’s not to say there isn’t a difference, there is, it’s just mattering less and less from a musicality and especially from a convenience standpoint as the wireless codec algorithms to continue to improve.

So, as per the usual, the Ananda BT can wirelessly stream from smartphones, DAPs (digital-audio players), tablets, etc. at what the company is calling “true high-fidelity bit rates, up to 24Bit, 96kHz” (24-bit/192kHz playback ability when wired to source via a USB-C cable). The company claimed the precis behind the design of the planar-driver, 103dB-sensitive (8Hz~55kHz) Ananda BT was compatibility with the newest-generation of HR Bluetooth codecs, those include SBC (Subband Codec), LHDC (Low Latency and High Definition Audio Codec), and aptX HD via its onboard “jitter-free USB DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and headphone amplifier.” Claimed playback time of the internal battery is 13.5 hours.

“From the moment it was released last summer, our Ananda headphone rose to become one of our most successful models,” said Dr. Fang Bian, Founder and CEO, HIFIMAN. “We were humbled by the attention, but we also took it as a challenge to create a wireless version that extends the Ananda’s natural, transparent sound to wireless listening.”

The Ananda BT is scheduled to start shipping in late March 2019.
