T.H.E. Show Newport 2014: VPI Nomad All-in-One Turntable

VPI weren't at Newport as a company, but I got wind that their new Nomad all-in-one turntable was to be found in the Brooks Berdan room. Throwback personal audio? The vinyl version of the Chord Hugo? All I know is, yes, the Nomad had personal audio written all over it. Very cool.

Scott Hicks gave me the rundown: Designed as an instant-on turntable for the budding audiophile, the Nomad is also built to take the use and abuse of a dorm room environment. It's ten inch, stainless steel tone arm with single-bearing gimbaled yoke is built to survive the dose of careless use it will no doubt have to survive with some novice users. An Ortofon 2M Red cartridge provides signal for the built-in phono stage; rear panel line-outs provide signal for an outboard stereo. But for the headphone faithful among us the Nomad includes a volume control, headphone amp, and 3.5mm jack to plug in your favorite cans.

I may have to dust off some vinyl and play around with one of these.

The Nomad sells for $995, more info at the VPI website here.
