Tyll Talking Big Sound 2015 on Home Theater Geeks Today

Scott Wilkinson has kindly asked me to join him on his "Home Theater Geeks" podcast over on TWiT.tv. It's really more than just a podcast however, Scott will be interviewing me via Skype, and both the audio and video will be available.

The show will be about my Big Sound 2015 experience, and will be webcast on TWiT.tv live TODAY, Thursday, October 29th 2015, at 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Both audio and video will be available afterward on the Home Theater Geek page on TWiT; Podcast is available through iTunes here.

See you then!

that podcast maks for a pretty good summary of big sound.

first time I see someone talking about using "bad" recordings for tests. I've been doing that for eons, in part because some of the tracks I know best are crap, and have yet to meet someone who doesn't make fun of me when I make them listen to some of my "test tracks" ^_^.
like apollo up "walking the plank", I even turned it into a 192kbps mp3 to put the last nail on the coffin. and I find the kind of harsh blobby noise they make when the singer and the drummer both start pushing, to change a lot from gear to gear, and be a mighty good revealler of early roll off, distortions smoothing things down or spikes on IEMs in the 8 to 10khz zone.

and of course I agree with listening to voices for the mids, we're all born and trained to be good at noticing subtle changes in voices to know if the wife is mad at us. it would be a waste not to use that skill.

you didn't seem overly enthusiastic when the smyth realiser was mentioned. because you didn't test it, or was the experience not satisfying(and if so, I would appreciate to know, what? why? how? etc ^_^). the concept seems very logic.

The Smyth Realizer is excellent, and I actually misspoke because it does something quite similar to the Out of Your Head stuff, except there's no intention with the Smyth to capture a variety of different systems.
