Astell & Kern’s T9iE recently passed across my review desk, and in the process of reviewing those IEMs, A&K also reached out to me asking if I’d like to review their then-recently released flagship DAP the SP2000. ‘Why not!’ was my enthusiastic response.

Today we come to the final part of our streaming hardware examination, discussing the exact thing we spend so much time covering here on InnerFidelity: Headphones and amps.

Last time we covered the DAC portion of a good streaming setup, with special attention paid to connectivity and latency, which can make all the difference in audio and video being synched... or not. I recently attended PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) East, which is to my knowledge, the largest gaming show on the East Coast, but of particular interest for me were the headphone setups here.

ORA Sound may be familiar to you from enormously successful Kickstarter and IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaigns. The headphones are claimed to have the highest Graphene-content driver in the world.

The name Manley has been legendary in audiophile and professional audio circles for many years now, and I recall my dad lusting after VTL and Manley high-powered tube gear when I was younger, not just because of its sound, but also because it was expensive. But, not so expensive that it was totally out of reach for the average Joe who saved their pennies.

What the open back brings to the table over the closed back is really what you’d expect: cleaner midrange, less of that ‘closed’ sound and darkness, and a trading of some bass thump for transient snap.
